Welcome
The crocuses and the robins are among the first changes that we notice each spring. The crocuses spark joy and a sense of renewal. Robins symbolize growth and new beginnings. These gifts from nature are reminders that there is always beauty and rebirth even after the darkest season.
At Crocus and Robin Counselling Services we understand that reaching out is the hardest part. We also know that there is opportunity for growth no matter how turbulent the season. Contact us today to see how we can help.
Our Approach
COGNITIVE BEHAVIOURAL THERAPY
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is the primary treatment approach used at Crocus and Robin. CBT is one of the most commonly used therapeutic approaches to treat mental health complaints because it is evidence-based, skills-focused and provides clients tools that stay with them long after therapy ends. CBT is effective in treating most common mental health complaints including but not limited to depression, anxiety disorders, panic, obsessive compulsive disorder, ADHD, insomnia, and even everyday life stress and burnout.
In the beginning, you can expect your therapist to help you set some goals which gives a shared focus for therapy. Your therapist will spend time getting to know you and help you learn more about what you are going through. You can expect to develop a new skill set for coping which might involve, practicing more structured CBT-based journalling practices, learning new ways to calm the body and mind, gradually increasing your exposure to things that you fear, getting more effective in containing and dealing with worries.
MINDFULNESS
Mindfulness involves paying attention to our experiences in a particular way that is intentional, present-focused, and without judgement. Mindfulness has gained more popularity within healing spaces as this practice helps people to live more fully, in the moment and accepting of what is, whatever the circumstances.
CBT and Mindfulness are based in the understanding our experience alone is not what causes suffering, but our relationship to that experience. Both approaches help people to step away from their thoughts and observe in new ways. While CBT helps to notice thinking errors and provides tools for restructuring unhelpful thoughts, Mindfulness asserts that thinking is simply a mental event and is not who we are.
Often these approaches can be used complimentary, and when done so can help you develop a more expansive view of self, enhance your ability to be present in your experience, and decreases the grip of our inner narratives. You can expect that with practice, Mindfulness will help you to let go of comparisons and judgements, decrease problems like ruminating and obsessive thinking, tolerate emotions, and enhance attention and focus.
